Can the G502 be used while charging?

Last updated: May 2025
Problem
Your G502 wireless mouse is low on battery or charging, and you need to know whether it can still function during that time—especially during gaming or critical tasks.
Solution
Yes — the Logitech G502 Lightspeed and G502 X Plus can both be used normally while charging. Once connected via USB, they operate just like a wired mouse, so there’s no interruption in functionality or responsiveness.
How It Works
For G502 Lightspeed
- Uses a micro-USB cable (with a locking clip design)
- When plugged in:
- The mouse enters wired mode
- Battery charges while full functionality is maintained
For G502 X Plus
- Uses a standard USB-C cable
- When connected:
- The mouse functions as a regular wired mouse
- Charging continues in the background
There is no need to switch settings or toggle modes manually.
Benefits of Wired Charging Use
- No downtime: Continue gaming, working, or editing during charging
- Stable connection: No wireless interference while plugged in
- Fast recharge: A short wired session often brings enough charge for several more hours of use
Charging Tips
- Use the included cable or a high-quality data+charge cable
- Avoid USB hubs or low-power ports if you’re gaming while charging
- Monitor battery status in Logitech G Hub (real-time updates)
What About PowerPlay? (G502 Lightspeed only)
If using the Logitech PowerPlay mousepad:
- The G502 Lightspeed charges wirelessly while in use, so there’s no need for a cable at all
- Functions seamlessly as both charger and mousepad
Note: PowerPlay is not compatible with G502 X models.
Notes
- Charging while in use has no negative impact on battery life
- If you’re experiencing lag while charging, try a different USB port or cable
- The G502 automatically resumes wireless mode once unplugged (no need to reboot or reset)
