Applies to: Telegram Messenger (Android, iOS, Desktop, Web)
Last updated: September 2025
Problem
You may want to stop someone from messaging or calling you on Telegram without deleting your account. Later, you might decide to unblock them.
Solution
Telegram lets you block users so they can’t send you messages, see your last seen, or call you. You can unblock them anytime.
Step-by-step Instructions
Step 1: Block a user
- Open the chat with the person you want to block.
- Tap their name/number at the top.
- Scroll down and tap Block User.
- Confirm the action.
Alternative method:
- Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Blocked Users.
- Tap Add User.
- Select the contact you want to block.
Step 2: Unblock a user
- Open Settings > Privacy and Security > Blocked Users.
- Find the person you blocked.
- Tap their name and select Unblock User.
Optional Methods or Tools
- When blocking, you can also report spam — Telegram forwards the report for review.
- On Telegram Desktop/Web, blocking/unblocking works the same way under Settings > Privacy and Security.
Best Practices / Tips
- When you block someone:
- They can’t see your last seen, online status, or profile updates.
- Their messages won’t deliver (only one check mark).
- Blocking doesn’t delete old chats — you can manually clear the conversation if desired.
- You won’t receive calls or notifications from blocked users.
- If harassment continues via new accounts, restrict who can see your phone number in Privacy settings.
