How do I update Snapchat to the latest version?

by Casey Lin · Published 01/10/2025 · Updated 01/10/2025

Applies to: Snapchat (Android, iOS)
Last updated: September 2025

Problem

Using an outdated version of Snapchat may cause bugs, missing filters, login errors, or security issues. Updates often fix these problems and add new features.

Solution

Snapchat can be updated through the Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS). You can also enable auto-updates so you always have the latest version.

Step-by-step Instructions

On Android

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Tap the search bar and type Snapchat.
  3. If an update is available, tap Update.
  4. To enable automatic updates:
    • Tap your profile icon in Play Store.
    • Go to Settings > Network Preferences > Auto-update apps.
    • Select Over Wi-Fi only or Over any network.

On iPhone (iOS)

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap your profile icon (top-right).
  3. Scroll to Available Updates.
  4. If Snapchat is listed, tap Update.
  5. To enable auto-updates:
    • Go to Settings > App Store > App Updates.
    • Toggle App Updates ON.

Optional Methods or Tools

  • Join the Snapchat Beta program (Android only) via the Play Store for early access to features (may be unstable).
  • Check Snapchat’s official Support Page or Twitter for update announcements.

Best Practices / Tips

  • Always update Snapchat from official stores only.
  • Restart your phone after major updates for smoother performance.
  • Keep your OS updated alongside Snapchat for best compatibility.
  • If an update introduces new bugs, wait for the next patch — Snapchat rolls out frequent fixes.
