Problem
You need to switch between D-Input (full force feedback) and X-Input (emulated gamepad) modes for compatibility with games.
Solution
Use the built-in mode toggle by holding the HOME button for several seconds.
Step-by-step instructions
- Ensure the wheel is powered and connected (see previous article).
- Find the HOME button on the wheel.
- To switch to X-Input mode: hold down the HOME button for ~3 seconds. The LED will flash three times, and the breathing LED will turn purple. Manuals++1
- To switch back to D-Input (which supports force feedback): hold HOME again for ~3 seconds; LED will flash and the breathing LED returns to red. Manuals++2madcatz.com+2
- Confirm the new mode by checking device enumeration in the OS or in a game.
Optional methods or tools
Not usually needed, but some users may use firmware utilities if available (if the manufacturer provides a configuration tool) to lock a mode.
Best practices or tips
- Use D-Input for games that support force feedback; use X-Input only when a game doesn’t support wheel input or doesn’t detect D-Input devices.
- Each time you change mode, it’s good to restart the game (or software) to force it to re-detect the wheel.
- Be cautious: in X-Input mode, some functions (like the gearshift or advanced feedback) may be disabled.
