How do I block and unblock someone on Snapchat?

by Casey Lin · Published 01/10/2025 · Updated 01/10/2025

Applies to: Snapchat (Android, iOS)
Last updated: September 2025

Problem

You may want to stop someone from sending you snaps, viewing your stories, or contacting you on Snapchat. Later, you might decide to unblock them.

Solution

Snapchat allows you to block and unblock users directly from their profile or through your settings.

Step-by-step Instructions

Step 1: Block someone on Snapchat

  1. Open Snapchat.
  2. Go to the chat with the person you want to block, or search their username.
  3. Tap their profile icon.
  4. Tap the three dots (⋮) in the top-right.
  5. Select Block.
  6. Confirm the action.

Step 2: Unblock someone on Snapchat

  1. Open Snapchat.
  2. Tap your profile icon > Settings (⚙️).
  3. Scroll down to Blocked Users.
  4. Find the username you want to unblock.
  5. Tap the X next to their name to unblock them.

Optional Methods or Tools

  • After unblocking, you’ll need to re-add the person as a friend if you want to connect again.
  • If harassment continues, report the account to Snapchat Support.

Best Practices / Tips

  • Blocking removes the person from your friends list.
  • They won’t be notified that you blocked them.
  • You can also customize story privacy (Settings > Who Can View My Story) if you just want to limit visibility instead of blocking.
  • If someone repeatedly harasses you, use Report instead of just blocking.
